Activate
- Locate the metal activation disc inside the hand warmer.
- Flex the disc until you feel or hear it click.
- Crystallization will begin and the warmer will start heating.
- Gently knead the pouch as it crystallizes to help distribute the heat.
If the first click doesn't start crystallization, flex the disc again.
Dimensions are approximate. Warming time will vary with ambient temperature and use.
Reactivate & Reuse
- Place a heat-safe cloth, rack, trivet, or small plate in the bottom of a pot so the pouch does not rest directly on the hot pan surface.
- Add enough water to fully cover the hand warmer.
- Heat until all crystals are completely dissolved and the contents are fully liquid.
- Once completely clear, continue heating for another 1–2 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and allow the warmer to cool in the water.
- Once completely cool, it's ready to activate again.
Reactivation often takes around 10–12 minutes, but larger warmers or multiple warmers may take longer. Complete crystal dissolution is more important than the clock.
Troubleshooting & FAQ
Why did it crystallize again after reactivating?
A tiny remaining crystal can trigger the entire pouch as it cools. Reheat the warmer until every crystal is dissolved, then continue heating for another 1–2 minutes before allowing it to cool.
My hand warmer won't activate. What should I do?
Flex the internal metal disc several times until you feel a distinct click. Gently moving the pouch while clicking can also help initiate crystallization.
Why does it become firm after activation?
That's normal. The liquid changes into warm sodium acetate crystals during activation. Gently kneading the pouch helps keep it flexible and distribute the heat.
Can I reactivate several warmers at once?
Yes. Keep the pouches fully submerged, avoid overcrowding the pot, and keep them from resting directly on the bottom. Multiple or larger warmers will usually require additional heating time.
How many times can they be reused?
RU Chillin hand warmers are designed for repeated reuse. Useful life depends primarily on handling and the condition of the pouch. Discontinue use if a pouch becomes punctured, torn, or begins leaking.
How should I store them?
Store hand warmers completely cooled and preferably in their liquid, reactivated state. Keep them away from sharp objects and excessive heat.
How It Works
RU Chillin hand warmers contain a sodium acetate and water solution with an internal metal activation disc. Clicking the disc starts crystallization, and that change from liquid to crystal releases stored heat. Heating the pouch in water dissolves the crystals back into liquid so the process can be repeated.
Care & Safety
- Do not microwave.
- Do not puncture, cut, or attempt to repair the pouch.
- If the pouch leaks or becomes damaged, discontinue use and dispose of it.
- Do not ingest the contents and avoid contact with eyes.
- If the warmer feels too hot, wrap it in a thin layer of fabric before continued use.
- Keep away from sharp objects and excessive heat.
- Minor bubbles or cosmetic changes can occur with repeated heating and cooling.
